About this plugin
Heartbeat is Softube's comprehensive drum synthesis instrument, built on modeled analog circuitry rather than emulation of any particular vintage machine. The eight-channel architecture divides into specialized voices: two bass drum channels with adjustable pitch, decay, and tone shaping; dual snare channels offering parameter-per-voice control for everything from crisp rimshots to layered rolls; matched percussion channels for toms and auxiliary hits; and dedicated hihat and cymbal channels. Each engine responds predictably to synthesis parameters, enabling both classic 1980s textures and unconventional percussion sounds.
The plugin's distinguishing feature is the Auto Layer Machine, which automatically stacks synthesized variations across channels to build complexity without manual layering. This system appeals to producers seeking quick textural depth without sacrificing control. The processing chain includes a Dyna-mite compressor/gate modeled after Valley People's hardware and the TSAR-1 reverb, both respected Softube emulations. These effects are integrated rather than bolted-on, allowing tight sonic integration within a single interface.

Heartbeat suits producers and sound designers who need flexible drum synthesis without the workflow friction of programming individual oscillators. The preset library provides entry points, but experienced users will find the parameter count sufficient for detailed sound design. It functions both as a standalone plugin and as individual modules within Softube Modular, adding flexibility for integrated studios.
The synthesis engine balances accessibility with depth. It won't satisfy users seeking extreme analog authenticity or ultra-modern digital processing, but it occupies a pragmatic middle ground where classic drum machine character meets modern production requirements.
