About this plugin
Safari Audio's Lion Master is a mastering-grade limiter that combines transparent peak control with optional saturation and stereo width manipulation. The plugin employs true peak limiting architecture with selectable oversampling, addressing the inter-sample peaks that standard limiters miss - a critical consideration for loudness-normalized streaming platforms and broadcast standards.
The crossover selector, adjustable between 60Hz and 13kHz, splits the audio into frequency-specific processing chains. This multiband approach allows independent gain and character control across the spectrum, enabling surgically precise dynamic management where standard full-band limiting would prove too blunt. The width control operates independently, offering stereo expansion or mono consolidation without affecting the limiting's core function.

The saturation stage introduces harmonic coloration that ranges from subtle warmth to noticeable tonal shaping, depending on how aggressively you drive the input. This differentiates Lion Master from clinical limiters by imparting character rather than merely catching peaks. The output ceiling, adjustable to 0.1dB resolution, provides exact loudness targeting necessary for streaming and mastering workflows.
Lion Master occupies familiar territory alongside tools like FabFilter Pro-L and Waves L2, though its crossover flexibility and integrated saturation give it distinct advantages for sources requiring frequency-dependent treatment. It suits mastering engineers handling diverse material, mix engineers seeking transparent loudness control, and producers wanting cohesive glue without noticeable pumping.
The plugin represents a competent implementation of established limiting principles with practical features for contemporary loudness management - neither revolutionary nor redundant, but genuinely useful.
