About this plugin
Roland's SRX BRASS brings the sonic architecture of its legendary wave expansion boards into plugin form, delivering brass tones that defined professional music production throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The plugin sources samples from the original hardware expansions that equipped studios worldwide, pairing period-correct sampled waveforms with Digital Circuit Behavior modeling to replicate the exact signal path and component behavior of the source hardware.
The sound character reflects Roland's meticulous approach to brass sampling: articulate, cut-through-the-mix transients with natural sustain and realistic falls. The instrument set covers essential voices - trumpets with tight attacks, warm trombones, round French horns, and full-bodied tubas - each responding authentically to velocity and articulation controls. Multiple velocity layers and switching points eliminate the steppy character common to earlier sample libraries, while the falls and scoops capture the human breath control that distinguishes convincing brass writing.

SRX BRASS excels in contexts where clarity and period-authentic character matter: orchestral mockups, film scoring, jazz and fusion arrangements, and pop productions that benefit from organic brass texture rather than purely synthetic horns. The editing interface provides transparent access to parameters without overwhelming users, and sounds integrate seamlessly with modern DAW workflows.
Among contemporary brass plugins, SRX BRASS occupies a specific niche - not a comprehensive orchestral library, but rather a focused toolkit of sounds proven across thousands of professional productions. For engineers and composers familiar with the original hardware, the plugin recreates that familiar character with technical accuracy. For newer users, it represents a stable reference point in brass sound design.
