About this plugin
Roland's PROMARS plugin is a circuit-accurate software emulation of the 1979 monophonic synthesizer, meticulously modeled from the original analog circuitry. The instrument excels at generating thick, characterful bass and lead tones through its dual VCO and dual sub-oscillator architecture per voice, allowing creative detuning to simulate a four-oscillator unison effect. This layering approach yields the dense, buzzing warmth that defined Roland's analog instruments from that era.
The plugin architecture mirrors the original hardware faithfully while extending its capabilities. Oscillators feature expanded pitch ranges beyond the vintage design, and the LFO adds a random waveform option absent from the original. A modern arpeggiator with tempo synchronization facilitates rhythmic performance, while advanced parameter control over noise and pulse width provides deeper sound design flexibility.

The addition of contemporary effects - reverb, bit-crusher, and tempo-synced delay - allows integration into modern production workflows without compromising the core analog character. PROMARS functions as both a DAW plugin and Roland PLUG-OUT synthesizer, compatible with SYSTEM-8, SYSTEM-1, and SYSTEM-1m hardware platforms, enabling seamless transition between studio and live performance contexts.
PROMARS suits producers and sound designers seeking authentic vintage monophonic synthesis with period-accurate tonal signatures. Its aggressive, growling character works particularly well in electronic music, soundtrack composition, and bass-heavy contexts where vintage analog character outweighs polyphonic flexibility. Among competing vintage emulations, PROMARS delivers impressive fidelity to its source material while offering practical modern enhancements that justify its software implementation.
