About this plugin
RAW-2 represents a significant evolution of Rob Papen's distortion-focused synthesizer, built from the ground up to deliver the aggressive, character-laden sounds that define contemporary hardcore and hardstyle production. The plugin's core strength lies in its dual-oscillator architecture, each equipped with an X/Y field for phase distortion manipulation. This approach grants intuitive, hands-on control over waveform mutation without requiring deep menu diving, a critical advantage in fast-paced sound design workflows.
The addition of custom waveform drawing for LFO modulation distinguishes RAW-2 from conventional distortion synths. Rather than cycling through preset LFO shapes, producers can sketch unique wobble patterns and contours directly, enabling the kind of sonic idiosyncrasy that separates professional productions from templates. The tempo-synced Ribbon Controller, inherited from BIP-2, introduces dynamic real-time expression with intelligent spring-back behavior, lending an organic, performative dimension to otherwise programmed material.

Beyond oscillators, RAW-2's per-voice synthesis processing chain - incorporating EQ, waveshaping, distortion, and LoFi processing - ensures signal coloration at the source rather than exclusively through master effects. The included filter suite draws from Rob Papen's broader sonic arsenal, complemented by reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, and flanger options. A 32-step arpeggiator and sequencer rounds out the feature set for pattern-based modulation and melodic development.
RAW-2 is purpose-built for producers working in hardcore, hardstyle, and aggressive electronic genres where textured, distorted synthesis forms the sonic foundation. The preset bank, featuring contributions from genre-leading artists, provides immediate reference points while serving as jumping-off points for deeper customization.
