About this plugin
DelGrain represents Rob Papen's distinctive approach to delay design, combining granular processing with tape delay characteristics in a single, creatively-oriented plugin. The core architecture allows users to position granular processing at five different points within the signal chain: before the delay, within it, after it, or as a parallel element alongside filtering. This routing flexibility translates to genuine sonic versatility rather than mere feature stacking.
The granular engine operates with adjustable grain sizes ranging from 1ms to 1024ms, with tempo-sync options extending from 1/64 triple notes to 1.1 dotted bars. A semi-tuning feature provides +/- 12 semitones of pitch shifting within the granular processing, making rhythmic manipulation of drums and percussion straightforward while remaining capable of creative destruction on vocals and sound design material.

Complementing the core delay and granular functions, DelGrain includes a three-part filter section featuring high-pass and low-pass combinations, bandpass filtering, and a vowel filter positioned at various points post-processing. A distortion module with rectify mode options sits at the input stage, adding harmonic coloration before granular and delay processing begins.
The plugin's signature Disrupt Sphere control system brings Rob Papen's characteristic non-linear approach to parameter manipulation, encouraging exploratory sound design over methodical programming. DelGrain suits producers and engineers seeking unconventional delay processing, whether for rhythmic precision or textural experimentation. Among granular delay tools, it distinguishes itself through comprehensive routing options and genuine integration with delay characteristics rather than treating granulation as an isolated effect.
