About this plugin
PSP BussPressor delivers VCA-style compression engineered specifically for stereo mix bus and subgroup processing. The plugin distills the characteristics that made SSL 4000-series bus compressors essential mixing tools, translating that sonic signature into a plugin with substantial enhancement options. The core compression section operates with the expected behavior of class-leading VCA designs: musical gain reduction that controls transients without excessive pumping, paired with a characteristic coloration that adds cohesion and glue to complex mixes.
What distinguishes BussPressor from more basic buss compressor emulations is its genuine flexibility. The sidechain section includes a variable high-pass filter, allowing you to prevent low-frequency content from triggering unnecessary compression - a practical solution that separates competent buss compression tools from exceptional ones. An adjustable auto-release circuit adapts to different program material, while separate wet and dry faders enable parallel compression within the plugin itself. This approach grants producers the control to dial in compression intensity without sacrificing mix transparency, crucial when processing full mixes where over-compression degrades detail.

The plugin performs capably across diverse applications beyond the mix bus. Drum buses, acoustic-heavy arrangements, and full orchestral mixes all benefit from its controlled approach to gain reduction and its tonal character. Among contemporary buss compression tools, PSP Audioware's offering ranks as a thoroughly capable solution that balances classic sonic reference with modern workflow conveniences. It occupies practical middle ground - more feature-rich than minimalist emulations, less complex than multi-algorithm mastering compressors designed for final stereo bus control.
