About this plugin
Manipulator is a vocal processing plugin that uses granular synthesis techniques to reshape monophonic sources with unusual precision and character. Rather than conventional pitch shifting or formant filtering, its architecture allows simultaneous manipulation of pitch, timbre, and harmonic content through 10 distinct effect algorithms that can be layered and modulated in real time.
The plugin accepts MIDI input, enabling dynamic pitch control via keyboard or controller - a critical feature for those wanting to reperform vocal melodies without re-recording. It supports up to 4 polyphonic voices when sequenced this way, effectively turning a single vocal take into a harmonized ensemble with processing applied across all voices.

Sonically, Manipulator excels at creating textural transformation rather than transparent correction. Its granular approach produces characteristic shimmer, smearing, and pseudo-stereo effects that sit somewhere between vocoder-like artifacts and organic pitch manipulation. This makes it particularly suited for electronic music production, experimental sound design, and any context where processed vocals should announce themselves as processed rather than disappear into a mix.
The plugin was developed in collaboration with Infected Mushroom, whose production aesthetic has long centered on rendering vocals as instrumental textures. For producers working in psychedelic, progressive, or experimental genres, this pedigree translates directly to practical utility.
Among comparable tools, Manipulator occupies distinct territory. It's more powerful than basic pitch shifters but less transparent than clinical auto-tune implementations. Its strength lies in creative reinterpretation rather than correction, making it valuable primarily for artists seeking transformation over naturalism.
