About this plugin
Unfiltered Audio's LION stands as a comprehensive synthesizer plugin that prioritizes sonic depth through architectural sophistication rather than interface complexity. The dual-oscillator foundation leverages 26 modes per engine, spanning FM synthesis, additive and subtractive waveforms, granular microsound, and noise generation, with optional stereo and unison modes that can be individually modulated for texture and width.
The mixer section distinguishes LION from conventional soft synths. Beyond standard crossfading, modes like Ring Modulation, Min-Max comparison, and terrain-based algorithms create non-linear oscillator interactions that yield distinctive timbral territories. The 16 filter configurations - including multiple low-pass, high-pass, and bandpass variants - further expand sonic possibilities without overwhelming the workflow.

LION's modulation matrix represents genuine technical achievement. The MIDI In modulator enables nuanced expression mapping, while full MPE support unlocks controller capabilities from instruments like ROLI Seaboard. Velocity, note data, and continuous controllers route intuitively to any parameter, supporting the kind of dynamic, responsive sound design that modern composition demands.
The integrated BYOME effect library supplies over 40 processors with modulation capability, permitting effect chains that respond to performance data. A 600-preset factory library provides immediate accessibility across electronic, ambient, and experimental genres.
LION suits producers seeking advanced synthesis without proprietary learning curves. The scalable randomization engine proves particularly valuable for designers exploring timbral territories rather than sculpting predetermined sounds. Pricing positions it competitively against Serum and Pigments, though its oscillator variety and experimental mixing modes offer distinct advantages for sound design focused workflows.
