About this plugin
TOMO Audiolabs' LISA brings genuine dynamic EQ processing to the digital domain by modeling the rare boutique hardware that defined mastering-grade tone shaping. Rather than applying static EQ curves, each of its six frequency bands employs a dedicated opto compression circuit that responds musically to program material, with selectable 3:1 or 10:1 ratios, soft-knee operation, and adjustable attack and release characteristics across slow, medium, and fast settings.
The interface echoes classic hardware EQs like the Sontec and Massenburg units, prioritizing intuitive hands-on operation. Proportional bandwidths shift intelligently as you adjust gain - deeper cuts become narrower and more surgical while larger boosts tighten into note-like precision. This responsiveness makes LISA exceptionally effective for mastering applications: controlling kick and bass without losing low-end extension, enhancing presence without introducing harshness, or addressing sibilance and cymbal shrillness while preserving brightness.

What distinguishes LISA from conventional dynamic EQs is its parallel band architecture, which produces noticeably forgiving processing compared to serial topologies. This characteristic proves particularly valuable on individual tracks where aggressive correction might otherwise sound unnatural. The dedicated mono version serves bass guitar, drums, and vocals well, while mid-side operation enables precise targeting of stereo-image elements on full mixes.
For mixing engineers and mastering professionals accustomed to hardware workflows, LISA represents a substantive alternative to traditional compression and EQ chains. Its program-dependent behavior and musical response make it suitable both as a surgical problem-solver and as a tone-shaping foundation on demanding sources.
