About this plugin
The Plugin Alliance Friedman BE-100 captures Dave Friedman's refined approach to Marshall Plexi modification through meticulous circuit modeling and a comprehensive recording chain library. Rather than emulating a stock amplifier, this plugin targets the specific sonic signature Friedman developed across decades of high-profile studio and live work, distinguishing it from more generic Plexi emulations.
The core architecture centers on two channels with distinctly voiced characteristics. The clean channel delivers articulate, touch-responsive tones with a three-way bright switch offering genuine tonal variation without artificial switching artifacts. The lead channel prioritizes what Friedman calls "massive yet tight" low-end response, a critical distinction for players seeking definition amid heavy saturation. The EL34 tube complement modeling contributes perceivable harmonic density, particularly in mid-range frequencies where many competing plugins thin out under high gain.

The plugin's real strength lies in its 100+ recording chain presets, which function as authentic post-amp processing. Rather than treating convolution reverb and tone-shaping as separate concerns, these chains integrate cabinet simulation, microphone selection, and mixing-stage EQ as cohesive units. This approach acknowledges how Plexi-based tones translate across different recording contexts, a nuance absent from many amp plugins.
The BE-100 suits players seeking articulate aggression across rock, metal, and blues contexts, as well as engineers mixing guitar-forward productions where amp character requires definition rather than blur. While specialization limits its breadth compared to multi-amp platforms, this focus yields genuine sonic authority within its scope.
