About this plugin
The AMEK Mastering Compressor stands as a faithful digital interpretation of one of mastering engineering's most respected dynamics processors. Rather than employing conventional attack and release parameters, this plugin replaces them with three independent detector circuits - slow, fast, and peak - each contributing variable amounts of compression simultaneously. This architecture allows for surgical control over how the compressor responds to different aspects of the signal envelope, effectively combining three complementary processors into a single interface.
The sonic character derives from True RMS detection topology, which responds to changes in signal energy according to logarithmic curves that naturally align with human hearing. In its Soft ratio setting, the compressor exhibits the gentle, program-dependent behavior typical of tube-era designs, while remaining substantially more transparent. Harder ratio settings introduce a more defined knee characteristic that maintains smoothness despite delivering assertive gain reduction.

Brainworx's interface improvements clarify what traditionally remained opaque in hardware compression. The detector graph visualization shows which circuit actively controls gain reduction at any moment, while the distinctive output meter displays compression, output, and net signal change in unified view. Additional refinements like Release Hysteresis and Timing parameters provide exacting control over the compressor's envelope shaping.
This tool serves mastering and mix bus applications exceptionally well, though its transparent character and flexible detection system make it equally valuable across individual tracks. Among modern mastering-grade compressors, the AMEK distinguishes itself through its unique detector architecture and sonic fidelity to the original hardware, making it essential for engineers prioritizing subtle, intelligent dynamic control.
