About this plugin
Northern Artillery Drums is a comprehensive drum sample library developed by Ugritone in collaboration with Finnish metal luminaries Matias Kupiainen and Rolf Pilve of Stratovarius. Recorded at 5by5 Studios in Helsinki, the library captures the articulate, punchy character of professional metal drum recording with meticulous multi-sampling across two complete kits, six snares, and an extensive cymbal selection. The 62 oneshot triggers provide flexibility for both traditional sampling workflows and modern drum programming techniques.
The sonic signature reflects its origins in the Finnish metal tradition - articulate transients, controlled sustain, and aggressive presence that cuts through dense arrangements without requiring excessive compression or EQ. The library's technical foundation rests on Ugritone's proprietary sampling engine, which manages complex velocity curves and round-robin variations with intuitive GUI controls. Routing and MIDI mapping options allow integration into both hybrid and fully electronic production scenarios.

Seven factory presets address genre-specific applications, ranging from straightforward metal voicings to darker industrial treatments. The preset architecture suggests this tool assumes producer familiarity with drum sound design rather than serving as a purely intuitive interface. Experienced engineers will appreciate the granular control; beginners may require time acclimating to the layering possibilities.
Northern Artillery Drums occupies a specific market segment - professional metal and rock production where authentic drum character matters more than convenience. Compared to general-purpose libraries, its specialized focus delivers superior results within its domain. This makes it a logical choice for producers working in metal, hard rock, and adjacent genres where the drum sound carries genre weight, though its utility beyond these applications remains limited.
