Tonebank is an intelligent MIDI sequencer that addresses a persistent limitation in music production: the gap between rigid arpeggiators and formless generative tools. Rather than cycling through predetermined patterns or producing random note sequences, Tonebank improvises within structured harmonic and rhythmic frameworks derived from traditional African musical systems, resulting in phrases with genuine compositional logic.

The plugin operates through three core engines. Its harmonic foundation consists of 15 preset chord systems ranging from two to six chords, each establishing distinct tonal territories. Clave patterns define where harmonic changes occur, providing rhythmic anchor points. Two generation modes then work within these constraints: Accompaniment mode functions as an intelligent arpeggiator with control over density, pitch variance, and rhythmic tension, while Melody mode generates single-line phrases that mimic natural speech patterns, including strategically placed rests and phrasing inflections.

The swing engine offers meaningful groove variation across straight, binary, triplet, and complex polyrhythmic feels. A newly added Harmony Editor allows custom chord set creation, transforming Tonebank from a generative tool into a flexible composition instrument suitable for any genre.
