About this plugin
Session Guitarist - Picked Acoustic delivers a meticulously sampled 1973 Martin 00-21 through three distinct microphone configurations, each tailored to specific sonic contexts. The Condenser AB setup provides transparent stereo imaging suitable for modern production, while the Dynamic MS pairing captures the characteristic presence of vintage 70s folk and rock recordings with adjustable width control. The Ribbon Blumlein configuration offers the warmest, most colored response of the three, lending itself to intimate, analog-forward mixes.
The instrument separates into two functional modules: a pattern-based sequencer containing 194 picking and strumming variations across multiple genres, and a dedicated melodic player for custom note entry. This dual-instrument approach accommodates both rapid workflow iteration and precise performance control. The pattern engine proves particularly valuable for establishing acoustic textures without requiring extensive MIDI programming.

Native Instruments' effects processing justifies the plugin's claim to sonic completeness. The integrated signal chain includes plate reverb, vintage compression, tape saturation, chorus, and the company's REPLIKA delay engine, allowing substantive tonal shaping without external processing. While the effects suite remains straightforward rather than comprehensive, the selections demonstrate practical restraint rather than bloat.
The plugin addresses a genuine production need: authentic acoustic guitar textures without the technical demands of recording or the limitations of sample libraries optimized for performance velocity. Session Guitarist - Picked Acoustic functions most effectively as a compositional and arrangement tool rather than a replacement for live recording. Its value proposition proves strongest in electronic and pop-oriented contexts where authentic texture matters more than responsive feel.
