About this plugin
Conflux represents Native Instruments' most direct engagement with spectral sound design and real-time timbral morphing. Built as a Kontakt instrument rather than a standalone effect, it functions as a hybrid synthesis and processing engine designed to animate static material and bridge the gap between sampled and synthetic textures.
The core architecture layers organic samples against PPG wavetables while routing both through FM, phase modulation, and ring modulation engines. This approach allows producers to inject harmonic complexity and movement into straightforward recordings - a vocal phrase becomes an evolving pad, a drum hit transforms into a textural wash. The real-time wavetable morphing operates independently from the modulation matrix, giving users precise control over timbral evolution without sacrificing stability.

For sound designers and experimental composers, Conflux fills a specific niche. It lacks the immediate musicality of traditional wavetable synths but excels at generating abstract textures, granular metamorphosis, and the kind of processed-yet-organic hybrid sounds increasingly central to contemporary electronic music and soundtrack work. The PPG wavetable heritage provides a particular sonic character - crystalline, slightly clinical, with harmonic density that reads differently than modern Wacom-drawn tables.
Sonically, Conflux occupies territory between Serum's accessibility and Operator's deep modulation capabilities, though its sample-layering focus and real-time morphing distinguish it meaningfully. Best suited for producers comfortable with sound design methodology rather than those seeking plug-and-play textures, Conflux rewards methodical exploration and patient parameter tweaking.
