About this plugin
Audioblast's MininnDrum 2 is a drum machine plugin that captures the sonic signature of Linn's classic 1980s drum computers while adding modern sequencing tools designed for contemporary production workflows. The plugin models three vintage drum sound ROMs, delivering the characteristic punch and digital character that defined an era of electronic music production without attempting synthetic recreation or modeling.
The core appeal lies in its integrated 16-step sequencer with 32 pattern slots per preset. This architecture allows producers to sketch drum ideas directly within the plugin rather than creating separate MIDI clips, significantly accelerating the beat design process. Velocity editing per step provides articulation control, while adjustable shuffle and groove parameters add rhythmic flexibility. The 128 factory presets span House, Techno, Hip Hop, Latin, Jazz, and experimental territories, offering both starting points and inspiration rather than finished solutions.

MininnDrum 2 occupies a specific niche between full-featured drum machines like Sonic Academy's Kick 2 and lighter step sequencer tools. It prioritizes workflow efficiency and sonic authenticity over deep synthesis controls, making it particularly suited for producers working across electronic genres who value quick iteration and retro character. The plugin excels in contexts where vintage drum tones are desirable rather than ironic - synthwave, electro, and house productions specifically benefit from its tonal palette.
For engineers and producers already familiar with classic Linn machines or seeking that particular digital warmth, MininnDrum 2 represents a practical middle ground between nostalgic purists and modern convenience. Its strength is knowing exactly what it is and executing that vision competently.
