About this plugin
Current 2.0 represents Minimal Audio's evolution of their signature synthesizer platform into a more integrated production ecosystem. At its core, the instrument combines a multi-engine architecture with streamlined workflow design, positioning itself as a bridge between deep sound design capabilities and practical music production demands.
The sonic character leans toward contemporary electronic music production, with particular strength in textural synthesis and bass design. The oscillator section accommodates custom wavetables alongside traditional waveforms, while the effects routing provides sufficient flexibility for both subtle enhancement and aggressive sound mangling. The macro control system - mapping four key parameters to an XY interface - allows real-time expression without menu diving, a practical consideration for live performance and iterative composition.

What distinguishes Current 2.0 is its Stream integration, a cloud-connected content platform that continuously supplies presets, samples, and wavetables. This approach reflects a shift toward synthesis as a discovery-driven process rather than purely technical sound design. The automatic key and tempo detection on sample loading addresses a genuine production friction point, while the preset architecture ensures that downloaded sounds remain editable rather than black-box solutions.
The plugin suits producers working across electronic genres who value speed without sacrificing control, as well as sound designers comfortable with preset starting points. Compared to modular-style competitors, Current prioritizes immediate usability; against simpler rompler alternatives, it offers genuine synthesis depth. The implementation demonstrates thoughtful UI design, though experienced users may find the abstraction from low-level parameters either liberating or limiting depending on their workflow preferences.
