About this plugin
Method 1 is a drum machine plugin built on Native Instruments' Kontakt 6 platform that consolidates sound design, sequencing, and effects processing into a unified environment. The instrument draws from classic beatbox aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s, mapping those sonic characteristics onto a modern architecture with genuine technical depth rather than surface nostalgia.
The core appeal centers on its 10,000+ sound library, organized across 225 snapshots and 500 loop templates. These sources span hip hop, trap, and EDM territories with particular emphasis on vintage-inflected drum character. The 8-track step sequencer offers granular control through per-step accent, flam, and pan parameters, while 12 pattern banks per patch enable rapid iteration without leaving the interface. Real-time and step-based recording modes support different creative workflows.

The signal chain architecture deserves attention. Each channel strips includes seven effect processors (accent, flam, pan, tune, filter, resonance, drive), while a global effects rack handles compression, tone shaping, crush, delay, and reverb. This layering allows surgical sound modification without surrendering the intuitive, immediate workflow Method 1 prioritizes.
Method 1 functions as either a standalone instrument or plugin within major DAWs, with full MIDI learn capability and drag-and-drop pattern integration. Native Instruments' NKS compatibility extends compatibility with Komplete Kontrol and Maschine hardware ecosystems.
The plugin best serves producers seeking a balance between sound quality and operational simplicity. Rather than attempting comprehensive drum synthesis, Method 1 refines curation and accessibility, making it most valuable for rhythm-focused composers working within contemporary genres where beat character carries compositional weight.
