About this plugin
McDSP's Channel G Surround HD v7 extends the company's established mixing console emulation into the surround domain, delivering three distinct plugin configurations designed for immersive audio production. The suite comprises G Dynamics, a console-style dynamics section with cascading expander/gate, compressor/limiter, and filter stages; G Equalizer, a five-band parametric EQ with additional filtering; and G Console, which combines both processors into a single integrated channel strip.
The technical foundation emphasizes transparent signal processing through zero-latency algorithms and double-precision internal mathematics, critical considerations for surround mixing where phase relationships across multiple channels demand precision. Real-time analyzers on both dynamics and EQ sections provide visual feedback during critical mixing decisions, while multiple calibration modes - including music, post-production, and emulations of classic analogue desks - allow engineers to tailor the sonic character to specific mixing contexts and aesthetic preferences.

Channel G Surround HD v7 distinguishes itself through seamless integration with Avid's professional ecosystem, including S6, S3, D-Control, D-Command, and live systems like S3L and S6L. This makes it particularly valuable for facilities operating within Avid workflows where hardware control and plugin consistency matter operationally.
The plugin occupies a practical middle ground in the console emulation landscape - less characterful than some vintage-focused alternatives, but offering transparent, configurable processing suitable for both tracking and mixing across surround formats. The HD version's optimizations for Apple Silicon and latest Intel processors ensure contemporary DAW performance. Two activations per license provide reasonable flexibility for active professionals managing multiple workstations.
