About this plugin
The AE600 Active EQ HD v7 represents a significant advancement in dynamic equalization, distinguishing itself through independent parameter control across both fixed and active bands. Unlike conventional dynamic EQs that apply a single ratio curve across all frequencies, McDSP's approach grants each of the six bands its own threshold, attack, release, and ratio settings, enabling surgical precision in frequency-specific dynamic processing.
The plugin's strength lies in its flexibility across EQ topologies. Users can select from parametric, proportional Q parametric, 5x Q parametric, Baxandall shelving, vintage styled, and X-style shelving configurations per band, with optional high and low pass filtering. This modularity allows matching the sonic character to source material without switching instances. The active EQ ratio control - unique to McDSP's architecture - determines input signal sensitivity, offering nuanced control over how aggressively the dynamic response engages.

Optimized for modern systems including Apple Silicon, the HD version leverages AAX DSP processing with zero latency algorithms and double precision calculations, essential for transparent operation in mastering chains or dense mixing sessions. Real-time analyzers and peak signal readouts streamline gain staging across each band's dynamics plot.
The AE600 serves mixing and mastering engineers requiring transparent yet powerful dynamic tone shaping. It excels on vocals, drums, and full mixes where frequency-specific dynamic control prevents problematic resonances without audible pumping. Among comparable tools, its combination of sonic flexibility, low latency, and granular parameter independence establishes it as a serious contender for demanding production work.
