About this plugin
The Master Bus Processor from Rave Generation consolidates the essential processing stages of professional mixing into a single, coherently designed plugin. Its architecture reflects a clear operational philosophy: each control serves a distinct purpose without parameter overlap or buried settings that encourage menu diving.
The signal chain progresses logically through six processing blocks. A multistage analog EQ opens the chain, combining Pultec EQP-1A modeling for low-band and presence work with MAAG-inspired body and air bands, all implemented via wave-digital filters for authentic harmonic behavior. An SSL G-series VCA compressor follows, offering the characteristic ratio detents and manual makeup gain alongside practical features like sidechain high-pass filtering and parallel New York compression blending. A 3-band multiband compressor operates in parallel, handling loudness management across the frequency spectrum with both upward and downward compression. Finally, a harmonic saturation stage adds drive character last in the chain, preserving its tonal contribution from re-compression or filtering artifacts.

The plugin's real-world value lies in its calibration across these stages. Rather than presenting isolated emulations, Rave Generation voiced each section to complement the others, creating a cohesive processing personality. The Amount knob proves particularly useful, allowing engineers to dial in the desired character before committing to intensity level.
This tool suits mastering engineers seeking a compact finishing chain, mixing engineers working with submixes, and producers who value sonic polish without signal degradation. It occupies sensible middle ground between lightweight bus compression and comprehensive mastering suites, delivering professional results without requiring deep parameter knowledge.
