About this plugin
Manga Saturation is a saturation plugin from CalPochi that prioritizes progressive harmonic coloration over aggressive distortion, making it a capable tool for adding presence and definition across a mix bus or individual tracks. The plugin's core strength lies in its single Drive control, which ranges from 0 to 100 percent and introduces increasingly complex harmonic content as you increase the parameter. The transition is notably smooth through the first 72 percent of travel, after which foldback components enter the algorithm, providing the aggressive textures necessary for more extreme processing.
The input and output controls offer ±24 dB of gain staging flexibility, allowing precise control over saturation intensity without forcing you to readjust your mix. This design choice is particularly useful for A/B comparisons, as output matching eliminates gain-induced perception bias when evaluating tonal changes. The plugin employs adaptive oversampling up to 16x internally, which effectively mitigates aliasing artifacts that typically emerge during nonlinear processing at lower sample rates. A true peak safety limiter set at -0.1 dBTP provides genuine insurance against digital clipping on extreme settings.

Manga Saturation excels on vocals, drum buses, and bass tracks where subtle density enhancement is preferred over obvious character coloration. The progressive saturation curve makes it accessible for engineers seeking gentle harmonic warmth without the surgical precision demands of multiband processing. The plugin functions reliably as a workstation tool but lacks the customization depth or distinctive sonic signature that distinguish premium saturation processors in this category. It represents solid, straightforward saturation for daily mixing work.
