About this plugin
Violonair is a virtual instrument plugin modeled after the Renaissance viola da gamba, distinguished primarily by its Dynamic Tuning system - a proprietary script that applies subtle, performance-based pitch variations to each note. This approach addresses a persistent limitation in sampled string instruments: the static, uniform tuning that betrays digital synthesis. By emulating the natural microtonal fluctuations inherent to live playing, Violonair achieves convincing organic character without sacrificing playability.
The instrument ships with extensive articulation options across three harmonic modes, alongside editable special effects and a wave editor for tonal customization. Five dynamic layers per note combined with multiple round-robin variations provide legitimate expressive range, while real-time articulation switching via mod wheel and key switches enables fluid performance control. The underlying sample set was captured using high-resolution recording techniques and processed through vintage and modern tube preamps to preserve the viola da gamba's resonant, woody character.

Violonair serves composers scoring period-authentic or fantastical works, as well as experimental producers seeking sophisticated string textures beyond conventional orchestral instruments. Its technical execution - particularly the Dynamic Tuning algorithm - positions it above basic vsti alternatives, though users should expect a learning curve matching its depth.
The plugin represents a thoughtful approach to bridging historical instrumentation with modern production demands. Its value depends heavily on whether your workflow benefits from specialized control over microtonal behavior and whether the Renaissance aesthetic serves your musical vision. For the right project, it delivers sonically convincing results.
