About this plugin
Sequencer One is a Kontakt-based emulation of the EHX Sequencer Drum, a rare eight-step CV/gate sequencer from the early 1980s that has remained largely inaccessible to modern producers. Loot Audio's software recreation captures the essential character of the original hardware: a single square-wave oscillator routed through eight sequencer steps with controls for pitch, decay, and tempo. The plugin's strength lies in its deliberate simplicity. Rather than attempting to expand the original concept, the developers have preserved the core architecture while adding practical features like MIDI control and parameter automation that the hardware never offered.
The sonic palette is distinctly lo-fi and percussive, capable of generating everything from snappy drum sounds and metallic tones to resonant bass sequences. The eight-octave tonal range remains intact, giving users considerable flexibility despite the minimalist control set. The decay and speed parameters are intuitive and responsive, allowing quick rhythmic explorations without menu diving.

Sequencer One serves a specific purpose: producers seeking characterful, melodic percussion or bass sequences with a distinctly retro-electronic aesthetic. It's particularly valuable for electronic music, industrial, and experimental work where the limitations of step sequencing become creative assets rather than constraints. While not designed for complex polyphonic synthesis, the plugin excels when used as a specialized rhythmic voice or bass element. Among modern step sequencers and drum machines, its value proposition rests on authentic emulation of a difficult-to-find original rather than extensive feature expansion. Requires full Kontakt version.
