About this plugin
London Solo Strings stands as a refined entry point into professional solo string sampling, offering four instruments with substantially more nuance than typical orchestral libraries. The core strength lies in its recording methodology: world-class performers on premium instruments, captured with technical precision that translates into natural legato transitions and articulation clarity without the synthetic artifacts that plague lesser implementations.
The articulation set is comprehensive and genuinely useful. Beyond the standard arco, pizzicato, and tremolo, the inclusion of spiccato variants, ponticello techniques, and properly sampled Bartók pizzicato gives composers legitimate timbral options for contemporary work. The addition of looped articulations and release samples in version 2.0 meaningfully improves realism in sequenced applications, addressing a persistent weakness in earlier string libraries.

The contrabass deserves particular mention - it's genuinely difficult to find solo bass articulations of this caliber elsewhere, making this library especially valuable for film composers and modern classical writers requiring depth beyond standard cello ranges.
Sonically, the library favors warmth and presence without excessive processing. The 1740-era violin imparts vintage character that sits naturally in mixes without requiring additional EQ intervention. Playback performance improvements in 2.0 suggest careful optimization for demanding sessions.
Best suited for film scoring, chamber composition, and contemporary classical work where individual string voices carry narrative weight, London Solo Strings occupies middle ground between boutique premium libraries and broader orchestral samplers. It's neither the most specialized nor the most affordable option, but the balancing of sonic quality, articulation depth, and workflow efficiency makes it a genuinely competitive choice for producers who prioritize immediate usability and consistent results.
