About this plugin
Kratos 2 Maximizer is a transparent loudness maximizer designed to increase perceived loudness during mastering without introducing the artifacts common to aggressive limiting. The plugin employs a straightforward control set centered around a Maximize knob paired with a Texture parameter that shifts between smooth and hard limiting characteristics. Attack and Release controls feature an Adaptive mode that intelligently adjusts response times based on signal content, reducing the manual tweaking typically required in mastering scenarios. A variable Knee parameter allows users to dial in the transition between linear and limiting behavior.
The technical foundation supports up to 4x oversampling to minimize aliasing at high frequencies, critical when processing bright source material. Latency compensation is implemented for DAW integration, and the dithering section offers three bit-depth options across multiple modes, addressing the specific requirements of high-resolution and reduced-bit-depth mastering work. The plugin operates transparently at sample rates up to 96 kHz.

Kratos 2 is best suited for mastering engineers seeking a precision limiter that prioritizes sonic integrity over aggressive loudness gains. The straightforward interface appeals to those who value directness over parameter depth. Unlike multi-band limiters or complex dynamic processors, this tool excels at preventing peaks while maintaining the character of a mix.
The plugin's expanded format support now includes VST, AU, AAX, and Reason compatibility, broadening its accessibility. While not a replacement for surgical multi-band compression or transparent metering chains, Kratos 2 occupies a practical middle ground - more sophisticated than basic limiting, yet streamlined enough for rapid decision-making during final sessions.
