About this plugin
Korg's software emulation of the original microKORG synthesizer successfully translates two decades of hardware synthesis into a plugin format that maintains the character of its source. The implementation focuses on faithful recreation of the analog modeling architecture rather than simplification for CPU efficiency, resulting in a synth that behaves predictably for users familiar with the hardware.
The dual oscillator design provides genuine versatility. Oscillator 1 offers eight standard waveforms plus access to 64 DWGS waveforms with real-time waveshaping via dedicated control knobs, while Oscillator 2 remains streamlined with saw, square, and triangle waves but includes cross-modulation and hard sync capabilities. This asymmetrical approach encourages experimentation without overwhelming new users. The filter section models the original's character with appropriate cutoff and resonance behavior, and the included amp envelope operates with expected response times.

The vocoder remains the signature feature, still capable of producing the characteristic robotic and intelligible vocal textures the hardware became known for. Effects processing and arpeggiator functions round out the instrument, though neither represents state-of-the-art implementation by current standards.
Sonically, the plugin delivers the warm, slightly gritty character expected from early-2000s analog modeling. It's particularly suited for producers seeking vintage preset compatibility or those replicating classic microKORG sounds in modern productions. While not essential for contemporary sound design, it occupies a specific niche: accessible synthesis with recognized sonic identity and straightforward workflow. For the price point, it represents reasonable value as both a historical artifact and functional sound source.
