Polyscape is a synthesizer pad instrument built around a novel sampling and layering approach that distinguishes it from conventional pad plugins. Rather than offering traditional synthesis controls, Karanyi Sounds recorded nine vintage and modern synthesizers - including a Prophet 5, Nord Lead, Oberheim OB-32, and Moog Subsequent 37 - capturing complete patches in their sonic entirety. These 40 sampled modules are organized by character: Strings, Brass, Reeds, Vox, Keys, Organs, Morphs, and Specials (including VHS-degraded and hardware-processed variants). Users combine up to four modules simultaneously, creating hybrid soundscapes through layering rather than synthesis.
This approach yields a distinctly analog character difficult to achieve through digital oscillators alone. The 2.8 GB library, captured at 24-bit/48kHz through UAD Apollo converters, retains the harmonic density and frequency response of the original hardware. The 130 presets span cinematic ambience, classic synthesizer pads, and 80s-informed textures with sufficient breadth for film scoring, ambient production, and electronic music composition.
Polyscape occupies a specific niche: it prioritizes sonic authenticity and textural depth over programming flexibility. Producers seeking granular synthesis control or real-time parameter manipulation will find its static-patch approach limiting. However, for those prioritizing organic analog character and requiring minimal tweaking, the plugin delivers convincing vintage synthesizer atmospheres. Its strength lies not in sonic novelty but in technical competence - the samples are well-recorded, the presets genuinely useful, and the layering engine intuitive. It's a specialized tool that executes its concept effectively.
