About this plugin
Abyss by Karanyi Sounds is a specialized bass synthesis library built on deep sampling from vintage analog hardware, specifically the Oberheim Matrix 6/1000 and Moog Minitaur/Sub37 synthesizers. Rather than a traditional effects plugin, it functions as a comprehensive Kontakt-based instrument collection designed for low-end sound design in film, game audio, and experimental music production.
The library's technical foundation distinguishes it from standard bass sample packs. Each of the 190 instrument presets draws from 4-octave recordings of actual synthesizer patches, processed through professional-grade hardware including Neve 88RS microphone preamps and Empirical Labs EL7 mastering processors. The granular and glitch processing layers - created using Eventide and Crusher X tools - add textural complexity without relying on simple pitch-shifting or time-stretching artifacts common in lesser libraries.

The sonic character leans heavily toward atonal, dystopian territories. Rather than serving traditional bass lines, Abyss excels at generating rumbling drones, industrial textures, and ambient soundscapes with genuine low-end weight. The 40 included multi-instrument patches allow layering of these foundation sounds into more complex timbral architectures.
Abyss appeals primarily to composers working in dark, unconventional contexts where stock bass sounds prove inadequate. Sound designers seeking authentic analog character without owning thousands of dollars in synthesizers will find substantial value here. For producers working within conventional electronic music genres, this collection operates as a specialized tool rather than an essential foundation. Its strength lies in delivering genuinely unusual, hardware-derived textures that maintain sonic integrity across professional monitoring systems.
