About this plugin
VocalSynth 2 is iZotope's comprehensive vocal processing plugin built around five distinct synthesis and processing engines. The core toolkit includes a vocoder, Compuvox (a formant-shifting tool), Polyvox (harmonic layering), Talkbox (which imposes filter characteristics onto the signal), and Biovox - a newer addition employing physical modeling of the human vocal tract to manipulate formants, nasality, and vowel characteristics with surgical precision.
What distinguishes VocalSynth 2 is its architecture: rather than forcing sequential processing, the plugin allows blending across all five modules simultaneously, enabling complex hybrid effects that would otherwise require extensive routing. This layering approach yields textural possibilities ranging from subtle enhancement to radical transformation. The redesigned vocoder offers improved intelligibility and tracking, while the Shred module provides lo-fi degradation effects that complement the cleaner synthesis tools.

The plugin's workflow centers on preset-based starting points - over 400 included - or deep parameter diving for those seeking granular control. CPU optimization has improved substantially from the original version, making complex vocal chains feasible even in dense sessions.
VocalSynth 2 serves producers and engineers working across electronic music, pop, hip-hop, and experimental genres. Its strength lies not in subtle, transparent vocal processing but in distinctive character modification and creative sound design. Compared to competitors like Antares AVOX or Waves Harmony, it prioritizes creative potential over naturalism, positioning itself as a playground for transformation rather than correction.
