About this plugin
Nectar 4 Advanced is iZotope's comprehensive vocal processing suite, combining intelligent automation, harmonic synthesis, and spectral analysis into a single plugin ecosystem. The centerpiece is the Auto-Level Module (ALM), which functions as a transparent dynamics management system that distinguishes between pitched vocal content and noise, applying gain riding without the coloration typical of traditional compressors. This approach yields consistently level vocals while preserving natural dynamics and tonal character.
The Voices Module leverages preset-based harmonic layering to generate vocal harmonies, eliminating the need for manual voice-leading knowledge. Rather than algorithmic pitch detection alone, the tool enables rapid iteration through harmonically coherent arrangements, streamlining what would otherwise require time-intensive manual layering or additional vocal recordings.

The Backer Module extends this concept with AI-generated background vocals, though results depend heavily on source material and preset selection. AudioLens integration allows spectral matching to reference vocals, providing a technical foundation for tonal targeting across your session.
Beyond these primary modules, Nectar 4 Advanced provides a modular suite of individual processors - including EQ, compression, saturation, and reverb - usable independently in your DAW, offering flexibility for engineers preferring surgical control over preset-driven workflows.
The plugin functions best as a time-saving tool for pop and contemporary music production rather than a replacement for skilled vocal engineering. It excels at managing recording inconsistencies and rapid demo production but performs most transparently when integrated thoughtfully rather than applied wholesale to every vocal. Its standing among competitors remains solid, though results remain tied to the quality of input material and careful parameter adjustment.
