About this plugin
IK Multimedia's Tonex Metal Gems collection represents a focused expansion of their TONEX ecosystem, delivering 100 Tone Models derived from four of metal's most influential amplifiers: the Peavey 5150, Diezel Herbert, Soldano SLO-100, and Bogner Überschall. Rather than attempting comprehensive coverage across all gain structures, this collection prioritizes high-saturation territory where these amps genuinely excel.
The technical foundation rests on IK's AI Machine Modeling technology, which captured each amp across multiple signal paths. The Diezel Herbert alone comprises 30 models drawn from three distinct channels, recorded through various mic and preamp combinations including Neumann SM57s, AKG C451Bs, and legitimate outboard gear like API 512C preamps and Neve 1073s. This granular approach yields legitimate tonal variation rather than superficial preset layering.

For metal producers and engineers, the collection's strength lies in its specificity. The Peavey 5150 models deliver the direct, compressed aggression that defined modern thrash metal, while the Diezel Herbert's tighter character suits contemporary djent and technical applications. The Bogner Überschall and Soldano SLO-100 round out the palette with more complex harmonic saturation characteristics suited to lead work and vintage-informed rhythm tones.
Tonex Metal Gems functions across IK's entire ecosystem, including the free TONEX CS plugin and hardware pedal, making it accessible without significant infrastructure investment. For producers already committed to TONEX as their modeling platform, this collection provides genuinely usable alternatives to generic amp selections. The sonic quality justifies its position as a
