About this plugin
Quad Lim is a multiband limiter that applies independent limiting to four user-defined frequency bands, each with adjustable threshold, release time, and makeup gain. Unlike traditional limiters, the processor treats each band as a discrete dynamic control problem, engaging only when program material in that specific frequency range exceeds the set threshold. This selective approach prevents the common pitfall of full-spectrum limiting, where a single peak in one band constrains the entire mix.
The architecture centers on transparent crossover filtering with adjustable slope characteristics, allowing you to tailor how sharply or gradually the frequency bands transition. This flexibility means you can apply surgical control to problem frequencies without introducing phase artifacts or ringing at the band edges. A master brickwall limiter sits downstream, providing absolute protection against clipping while preserving the nuanced work of the band processors.

Quad Lim excels as a mastering tool on stereo buses where traditional limiting would cause excessive gain reduction across the spectrum. Mastering engineers benefit particularly from its ability to tame intermittent peaks in isolated frequency ranges - a boomy low end or sibilant presence - without affecting the overall mix balance or dynamics. It proves invaluable on live recordings where source material fluctuates dramatically, or on mixed material where precise EQ balance remains elusive.
The plugin's selective gain reduction distinguishes it from broadband limiters and makes it genuinely useful for transparency-critical applications. Among multiband dynamics processors, Quad Lim's straightforward implementation and high-quality filtering position it as a practical, transparent choice for mix finishing and mastering contexts.
