About this plugin
IK Multimedia's ENGL Ampthology Vol 1 represents a significant addition to the TONEX ecosystem, delivering studio-quality amp modeling based on six hand-selected amplifiers from ENGL's private collection. The package comprises 72 tone models captured using TONEX Modeler technology, encompassing amp-only, amp plus cabinet, and complex rig configurations for maximum flexibility across different mixing and performance contexts.
The sonic approach centers on ENGL's signature high-gain character, prioritizing clarity and articulation within aggressive tonal territories. The Fireball 60 models emphasize tightness and punch suitable for metal and rock applications, while the Powerball MK1 captures extended low-end response with precise gain staging. Each amp receives multiple tone model variations, allowing engineers to tailor compression, saturation, and harmonic content without resorting to additional processing.

This collection proves most valuable for producers and engineers working across metal, progressive rock, and hard rock genres where ENGL amplifiers have become industry standard. The inclusion of amp-only captures addresses a practical studio need, enabling seamless integration into existing signal chains and hybrid setups. Compatibility across TONEX platforms - including the free TONEX CS software, TONEX Pedal, and hardware units - ensures accessibility regardless of existing infrastructure investment.
Relative to competing amp modeling solutions, ENGL Ampthology Vol 1 distinguishes itself through direct collaboration with the manufacturer's tone development team, resulting in models that preserve the amplifiers' characteristic presence and response dynamics. For engineers already invested in TONEX workflows, this collection eliminates the guesswork typically associated with amp selection during pre-production phases.
