About this plugin
AmpliTube Brian May is IK Multimedia's meticulously modeled recreation of one of rock's most distinctive guitar signal chains. The plugin captures the specific tonal character that defined Queen's studio work and live performances across five decades, centered on Brian May's legendary 1960s homemade Red Special and his unconventional amplification approach.
The core modeling includes two amplifiers: the BM 30, based on May's modified Vox AC30, and the BM DK, representing his custom "Deacy" amp built into a wooden box with adjustable battery power. Three cabinet models provide the spatial component, while seven stompboxes address May's layered approach to tone shaping. The standout additions are the Red Special pedal model, which captures the guitar's harmonic characteristics, and the Harmonator effect, essential for recreating those intricately stacked vocal-like leads that became Queen's trademark.

A key technical differentiator is the Wet-Dry-Wet signal path architecture, mirroring May's actual live setup where wet (effected) signals sandwich the dry amplified tone. This routing proves critical for achieving the spatial dimension and harmonic richness that defined his sound.
AmpliTube Brian May appeals primarily to Queen cover musicians and rock players seeking authenticity in the May idiom. However, the underlying components - particularly the treble booster, phaser, and chorus - function as legitimate tools for any producer seeking that characteristic compressed, harmonic-rich British rock tone. The harmonizer opens creative possibilities beyond May's specific use cases.
Among signature effects collections, it represents serious engineering work rather than nostalgic packaging.
