About this plugin
Heavyocity's Ensemble Sessions: Ensemble Metals Collection represents a focused approach to cinematic percussion design, built around six-player metal ensemble recordings captured in New York and processed through the company's established Kontakt-based engine. The collection splits into two operational domains: a kit-based instrument offering twelve multi-sampled metal ensembles, and a loop library containing over 300 tempo-synced phrases.
The kit instruments span practical extremes, from conventional percussion (kegs, trash cans) to unconventional sources (railroad spikes, pipes), each captured as simultaneous ensemble recordings rather than layered individual strikes. This ensemble-first approach yields a more cohesive harmonic character than typical percussion libraries built from isolated hits. The interface provides granular control through per-metal EQ, per-channel ADSR, and global effects including reverb, delay, distortion, and chorus modulation. Heavyocity's signature Punish and Twist parameters enable aggressive spectral manipulation without requiring external processing.

The loop library differentiates itself through straight and triplet categorization, unusual among percussion-focused tools. The Loop Mutator slice editing system allows meaningful rearrangement beyond simple time-stretching, while stem-based construction enables custom rhythmic combinations. This architecture supports both direct placement and layering with hybrid material.
Ensemble Metals occupies a middle ground between generic percussion libraries and bespoke film scoring tools. It's most effective for composers working within genre conventions where cinematic metal textures serve functional rhythmic roles rather than primary melodic content. The processing chain addresses frequency management competently, though experienced engineers may supplement with external dynamics and spectral tools for context-specific refinement.
