About this plugin
Harrison Consoles' Drum Flow represents a purposeful departure from conventional drum processing by addressing a fundamental challenge: most plugins treat drum transients and sustain as a single entity, but real drums require differentiated treatment across their envelope. The plugin's centerpiece, Drum Character, solves this by detecting transient peaks and allowing independent EQ control of the attack and tail phases. This transient-aware approach produces results that feel more natural than conventional EQ, particularly when tightening tom resonance or controlling kick boxiness without sacrificing sustain character.
The signal chain combines six routable processing stages with practical utility. The expander/gate handles mic bleed reduction with precision, while the integrated signal generator adds controlled enhancement - either tight click or sub-bass weight - without requiring external tools. The compressor draws from Harrison's console heritage, offering transparent compression with genuine character. The 32C Channel EQ brings the sonic signature of Harrison's hardware mixing consoles to the digital domain, lending warmth that contrasts with purely clinical processors.

Drum Flow occupies a specific niche: it's invaluable for engineers working with multitrack acoustic drums who need surgical precision without sterile processing. The transient detection system requires proper threshold calibration, and workflow-savvy users will appreciate the routing flexibility. For those mixing electronic kits or heavily processed drums, the investment may exceed practical necessity.
This is a tool built on genuine engineering insight rather than feature multiplication. It delivers on its core promise: extracting punch while preserving nuance.
