About this plugin
Gorilla Drive V2 represents a meaningful evolution in Safari Audio's distortion and saturation toolkit, delivering substantive improvements over the original for engineers seeking vintage character without sacrificing transparency. The plugin maintains the core philosophy of its predecessor - adding weight and grit while preserving dynamic integrity - but introduces several technical refinements that expand its practical range.
The standout addition is the Transient Shaper, a single control that intelligently balances attack definition against sustain body. Rather than forcing a choice between snappy articulation and weighted presence, this parameter lets you achieve both simultaneously, making V2 genuinely useful across drums, bass, guitars, and even vocals where transient preservation matters. The independent Lows and Highs drive stages function as built-in surgical EQ, allowing tonal shaping without leaving the plugin - a practical time-saver for mixing.

Ape Mode serves as the aggressive option when subtle warmth won't cut it, providing additional distortion and compression for sources demanding character or rescue work. The battery emulation feature adds authentic vintage instability, while improved gain-matching controls ensure level consistency across presets without manual compensation.
The redesigned interface and oversampling algorithm represent technical maturation rather than gimmickry. Short-term LUFS readout and A/B comparison functionality acknowledge how modern production workflows actually operate. For engineers already familiar with V1, the upgrade justifies itself through the Transient Shaper alone, which solves a real problem in maintaining definition while adding substantial body - something most saturation tools handle poorly.
