About this plugin
GForce's impOSCar3 is a faithful software recreation of the OSCar, the British hybrid synthesizer that defined a particular strand of 1980s synthesis through its combination of digital oscillators and analog filters. The plugin maintains this core architecture while substantially expanding the original's capabilities through modern software design.
The instrument's signature character derives from its dual filter section, which offers multiple configurations across low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass topologies in both 2-pole and 4-pole variants. These can be arranged in parallel, serial, or split configurations, yielding everything from transparent tone shaping to pronounced formant-like coloration. The filters retain the slight unpredictability and musical nonlinearity that made the hardware version distinctive.

The redesigned oscillator section now features 256-step wavetables with over 150 factory presets, alongside a new user-editable wavetable editor supporting both shape-drawing and additive editing. This represents a substantial sonic expansion over the original hardware while maintaining the precision-to-warmth balance that defined the OSCar's appeal. Poly-unison stacking capabilities add density and movement.
impOSCar3 suits producers and sound designers seeking distinctive pad textures, resonant tonal explorations, and characterful lead synthesis. The 1800+ included patches provide both inspiration and functional starting points, though the instrument rewards deep parameter exploration. Among software OSCar emulations, this version remains the most comprehensive, combining historical accuracy with thoughtful modernization. It occupies a specialized niche rather than competing as a general-purpose polysynth, making it most valuable as a complementary tool within a larger plugin ecosystem.
