About this plugin
AIR Music Technology's Fabric Vintage CS is a meticulously crafted emulation of a landmark performance-oriented polysynth from the 1980s, engineered to faithfully reproduce the sonic characteristics that defined an era of cinematic and pop production. The plugin operates on AIR's Fabric engine, a multi-sample synthesis platform that combines the warmth of sampled oscillator content with modern editing capabilities and reliable CPU efficiency.
The instrument's architecture centers on two independently processed multi-sample oscillators plus a dedicated percussive layer, each with individual filter, envelope, and LFO control. This layering approach enables complex, evolving timbres that retain clarity even in dense polyphonic passages. The filter design exhibits the characteristic resonance and warmth associated with the original hardware, while maintaining responsive envelope behavior essential for expressive playing.

Sonically, Vintage CS excels at brass emulations with natural dynamic response, sustained pad textures that evolve convincingly over time, and lead synthesis with pronounced presence. The presence of early digital and FM-influenced tones differentiates it from purely analog-modeled synths, making it particularly effective for contemporary electronic and ambient music alongside traditionally cinematic applications.
The integration of modern effects processing, enhanced polyphony, and seamless DAW compatibility positions this as a practical tool rather than a purely nostalgic recreation. For producers seeking authentic vintage character without the workflow limitations of hardware emulation, or engineers accustomed to Akai's ecosystem, Fabric Vintage CS delivers a reliable instrument with genuine sonic depth and expressive capability across multiple genres.
