About this plugin
Pro-R 2 represents a significant refinement of FabFilter's already-capable reverb, addressing genuine workflow gaps while expanding its sonic palette. For existing Pro-R users, the upgrade justifies consideration primarily through its immersive audio implementation and two new algorithmic approaches rather than incremental tweaking.
The immersive audio support is genuinely comprehensive, accommodating Dolby Atmos configurations up to 9.1.6 with intelligent automatic channel detection. The Surround Settings panel grants precise control over how reverb parameters scale across the spatial field, and the engineering behind surround cross-feeding demonstrates serious technical investment. This positions Pro-R 2 among the few reverbs worthy of serious surround mixing work.

The new Vintage and Plate algorithms meaningfully expand the plugin's character range. Vintage targets that particular brightness associated with classic '80s and '90s digital processors, making it serviceable for extended ambient spaces, while the Plate algorithm delivers authentic metallic coloration suited to drums and vocals without the CPU overhead of convolution. Neither algorithm breaks new sonic ground, but both are executed with FabFilter's characteristic clarity and control.
Practical additions like IR import, ducking, gating, and analog-style saturation round out the feature set competently. The saturation, in particular, adds useful harmonic warmth for thickening reverb tails on dense mixes. The workflow remains intuitive, preserving what made the original Pro-R approachable while offering power users genuine new capabilities.
For Pro-R owners already invested in the ecosystem, this upgrade is worthwhile if you work regularly in immersive formats or require greater tonal diversity. For new users, Pro-R 2 stands as a reliable, full-featured reverb that competes effectively with market alternatives.
