About this plugin
Electric Keys - Reeds Duo delivers meticulously modeled emulations of two classic reed-based electric pianos, instruments that defined the sound of soul, funk, and rock production from the 1960s onward. Unlike tine-based alternatives, reed pianos generate their characteristic tone through vibrating metal reeds, producing a distinctly different harmonic profile marked by snappy transients, expressive dynamics, and natural compression that responds directly to playing intensity.
The plugin models two specific instruments - Jade and Moonshell - capturing their individual sonic signatures through detailed layer-by-layer performance dynamics. The Color knob intelligently blends between mellow, warm textures and sharp, percussive articulation, letting players access the full range of each instrument's expressive capability without complex parameter hunting. Dual signal chains allow simultaneous processing of clean direct signals alongside cabinet-modeled outputs, essential for achieving the blended character that defines authentic vintage keyboard tones in modern production.

The preamp modeling preserves the tone-shaping circuits intrinsic to these instruments' sound, while the cabinet section provides multiple microphone types and configurations for genuine tonal flexibility. Integration with Guitar Rig 7's effects ecosystem enables sophisticated signal chain design, from transparent enhancement to heavily processed textures. Fine-grained controls over mechanical response, filtering, and low-end weight provide engineers with surgical precision.
Reeds Duo serves producers seeking authentic vintage keyboard character without compromising workflow flexibility. It occupies solid middle ground among electric piano plugins, offering exceptional accuracy and control at a reasonable investment. For genre-specific applications spanning soul, funk, blues, and pop production, this represents a genuinely useful addition to a professional toolkit.
