About this plugin
Hollywood Fantasy Strings represents a pragmatic approach to a genuine production challenge: seamlessly integrating period string instruments with modern orchestral textures. Rather than treating medieval and Renaissance strings as exotic supplements, EastWest positions them as equal voices within a cohesive sonic framework, recorded in the same studio with matching microphone arrays as their core Hollywood Strings library.
The library pairs five historically informed instruments - likely spanning lute, vihuela, hurdy-gurdy, and related Period strings - with octave-doubled modern orchestral sections. This doubling technique effectively bridges the tonal gap between sparse historical instruments and contemporary film scoring expectations, allowing each layer to retain clarity while achieving the mass required for modern soundtracks. The inclusion of true legato and varied articulations suggests serious attention to playability and expressiveness, not mere sample collection.

The technical implementation leverages EastWest's Opus engine, providing the expected modern conveniences: detailed microphone mixing, velocity dynamics, and integration pathways with their existing orchestral ecosystem. This compatibility proves essential for composers already invested in Hollywood Strings, ensuring tonal coherence across mixed libraries without extensive re-balancing.
The target audience encompasses film and television composers working within fantasy and historical genres, as well as game audio professionals seeking authentic medieval atmosphere without sacrificing production polish. Experienced producers will appreciate the conceptual rigor here - this isn't period authenticity theater, but rather a deliberate sonic aesthetic designed for contemporary narrative contexts.
For those navigating the crowded fantasy scoring space, Hollywood Fantasy Strings occupies a specific niche: professionally recorded, technically competent, and philosophically committed to blending rather than juxtaposing its constituent elements.
