DriveLE is Plugin Boutique's streamlined approach to harmonic distortion, distilling the multimode architecture of its parent plugin DriveMod into a single, cohesive algorithm. The resulting sound combines characteristics from six distinct distortion models, delivering a balanced blend rather than the flexibility of selecting individual flavors. This unified approach proves pragmatic for mixing scenarios where you need consistent saturation without analysis paralysis.

The plugin handles the technical fundamentals well. Eight times oversampling prevents aliasing artifacts that plague lighter distortion processors, critical when pushing digital saturation on bright sources like cymbals or high-frequency synths. A makeup gain control compensates for level changes introduced by the nonlinear processing, essential for transparent comparisons during mixing.

Sonically, DriveLE adds presence and harmonic content in ways that feel musical rather than abrasive. It works equally well on individual tracks - adding grit to vocals, punch to drums, or aggression to bass - and across stereo buses where its cohesive character can "glue" disparate elements together. The 20 included presets provide starting points, though the plugin's simplicity invites manual tweaking.
