About this plugin
Denise Audio's poltergate is a precision drum shaping and de-bleeding tool that consolidates gating, transient control, and bleed reduction into a single interface. Rather than treating these processes as separate operations, the plugin integrates them around a shared threshold architecture, streamlining workflow while maintaining surgical control.
The core technical innovation lies in Denise's proprietary de-bleeding algorithm. Unlike conventional gate designs that simply mute unwanted content, poltergate isolates bleed with three dedicated controls that preserve both the punch and resonance of the primary drum source. This proves particularly effective for controlling cymbal spill on tom tracks or taming low-frequency rumble, where traditional gating often produces audible artifacts. The algorithm's threshold inheritance from the main gate eliminates redundant parameter adjustment across separate modules.

Beyond basic noise reduction, the plugin encourages creative sound design through an integrated dynamics section combining limiting, clipping, and transient shaping. An EQ graph with adjustable spike targeting allows precise frequency selection before processing, while tempo-synced release times enable rhythmic gating effects. Automation of release and curve parameters opens possibilities for evolving, animated drum textures.
poltergate suits mixing engineers seeking faster drum cleanup without quality compromise, as well as sound designers exploiting its extended feature set for unconventional results. Its clear visual feedback and intuitive control layout reduce learning curve compared to traditional multiband or surgical gating approaches. The plugin represents a meaningful refinement in drum processing methodology, addressing genuine technical limitations in existing tools rather than simply combining features.
