About this plugin
Decimort 2 is D16 Group's refined take on bit reduction and sample rate conversion, designed to authentically emulate the sonic character of classic hardware samplers rather than simply degrade audio. The plugin models the complete signal chain of vintage AD/DA converters from early Akai and E-MU units, capturing their distinctive "grit" and harmonic coloration that made processed material sit naturally in dense mixes.
What distinguishes Decimort from conventional bit crushers is its approach to aliasing. Rather than allowing unwanted digital artifacts to accumulate, the algorithm implements zero internal aliasing while selectively introducing only the harmonic distortion characteristic of the classic samplers it models. This technical precision allows producers to achieve vintage warmth without the brittle, unmusical artifacts typical of naive sample rate reduction.

Version 2 expands control significantly beyond basic bit depth and sample rate parameters. The inclusion of two anti-alias filter options - particularly the steep approximative filter - gives engineers genuine control over the frequency content before degradation occurs. This makes Decimort adaptable across different material: aggressive enough for intentional lo-fi aesthetics on drums or basslines, yet transparent enough to add subtle character to full mixes.
The plugin appeals primarily to hip-hop and electronic music producers seeking authentic sampler coloration, though sound designers and mix engineers will find practical applications in adding cohesion to digital or hybrid recordings. Among specialized bit reduction tools, Decimort's modeling depth and filter architecture place it among the most sonically convincing options available, justifying its position in professional workflows where vintage character serves a functional, not merely nostalgic, purpose.
