About this plugin
ROLI's Cinematic Impact expansion extends Cypher2's wavetable synthesis engine into percussive and textural territory, delivering 42 presets (21 MPE-enabled, 21 standard) focused on dramatic, non-sampled percussion suitable for film scoring and interactive media. The core distinction here is architectural: rather than relying on convolution or sample playback, all sounds emerge from real-time synthesis, affording both creative flexibility and zero latency concerns across CPU-constrained sessions.
The sonic palette emphasizes metallurgical and resonant sources - cymbals, gongs, toms, and synth-derived impacts - rendered with considerable harmonic complexity. The atonal harmonics and enharmonic capabilities prove particularly valuable for underscore work where pitched percussion can function simultaneously as texture and melodic element. Standard presets provide conventional percussive articulation; the MPE variants unlock velocity-sensitive timbral morphing and pressure-based modulation across the strike, enabling the nuanced control essential to expressive cinematic writing.

Sound designer Yuli Yolo's aesthetic leans toward the vast and unsettling - these are tools for building tension and spatial depth rather than rhythm section replacement. The expansion finds its strongest application in game audio, documentary scoring, and experimental composition where abstract, evolving percussion textures can sustain tension across extended passages.
Compared to traditional sample-based percussion libraries, Cypher2's synthesis approach trades immediate familiarity for sound-design possibilities and CPU efficiency. This expansion represents a legitimate alternative for producers seeking unconventional percussive textures without sample management overhead.
