About this plugin
BFD's London 70s expansion pack brings meticulously sampled vintage drum hardware into the modern DAW environment. Rather than generic 70s pastiche, this collection captures the specific tonal character of period-appropriate Ludwig and Paiste gear favored by hard rock acts of the era. The kick drum samples derive from a Ludwig Vistalite kick, delivering the punchy attack and woody resonance essential to that decade's rock aesthetic. The snare selections center on a Ludwig Black Oyster 402 Supraphonic with 10 lugs, offering the bright, cutting crack that defined 70s drum production without excessive ring or brittleness.
The tom configuration includes three Ludwig Vistalite pieces that respond realistically across the frequency spectrum, while the cymbal palette - Paiste Sound Edge heavy hi-hats and 2002 series crashes and ride - provides the warm, slightly dark character typical of 70s studio recordings. Crucially, BFD's drum engine applies intelligent layering and velocity mapping that mimics how these acoustic instruments actually respond to varied playing dynamics.

This expansion excels for producers working in rock, hard rock, or blues-based genres who demand authenticity without sacrificing modern processing flexibility. The 178 included grooves provide a solid foundation, though the real value lies in the underlying samples' tonal architecture, which integrates seamlessly with BFD's synthesis and effects ecosystem. The London 70s collection stands alongside other period-specific expansions as a legitimate reference tool rather than a nostalgic novelty, particularly for engineers mixing records that demand genuine vintage drum character alongside contemporary production values.
