About this plugin
BFD London Sessions represents a significant capture of one of the world's most acoustically revered recording spaces. This expansion for BFD3 documents ten drum kits recorded at AIR Studios' Lyndhurst Hall, a 2,000-square-meter room that has shaped countless hit records since the 1970s. The 49GB library prioritizes spatial character alongside kit diversity, with particular attention paid to microphone placement and signal chain.
The recording methodology employs a tiered mic approach: tight direct channels on kick and snare, two pairs of room mics including a mid-side configuration, and dedicated far-room captures. This architecture gives producers genuine mixing flexibility, from dry punch to fully immersive room character. The Neve console's Montserrat preamps and Prism converters impart the expected sonic warmth without sacrificing definition - a balance many software drum libraries struggle to achieve.

Sonically, London Sessions occupies territory between modern clarity and vintage character. The kick drums possess weight without muddiness, while snares display both attack and resonance. The room mics function as a legitimate mixing tool rather than decoration, with the mid-side pair enabling everything from compressed mono to dramatically expanded stereo imaging.
This expansion suits producers and engineers working across rock, pop, funk, and jazz who value spatial authenticity and mixing control. While the library's scale and recording quality command a premium, the architectural approach - prioritizing room character alongside direct sources - distinguishes it from purely close-miked alternatives. For those already invested in BFD3's ecosystem, London Sessions provides the kind of sonic foundation that rewards both straightforward application and detailed engineering.
